Nicolaus Copernicus

One of our favourite timepieces from Divided by Zero is easily the Copernicus. The design of this piece is simple, elegant and in reference to Copernicus' theory of heliocentrism which sparked the Copernican Revolution, with led to the acceptance of the astronomical model we know today: that the Earth orbits the Sun.

Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) lived in Prussia (now part of Poland) and studied and worked as a physician, mathematician, astronomer, scholar, diplomat and economist.

The Scientific Revolution is regarded by most historians to have officially begun with the publication of his masterpiece book On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres. He’d been writing it since at least 1514, and it is said he finally saw it in published form while on his deathbed, just minutes before he and it passed into legend.
