Galileo Galilei

The Galileo watch by Divided by Zero, was inspired by the famous Renaissance thinker of the same name. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was an Italian astronomer, who is today renowned for sticking to his scientific guns.

In the face of near-overwhelming pressure - and threat of torture - from the all-powerful Catholic church, he repeatedly asserted his innocence. They still found him guilty of saying that scientific fact differed from their interpretation of the Bible and sentenced him to house arrest for life. However, there is much more to the Galileo story than angering the religious authorities.

One of the broadest thinkers ever, Galileo’s earlier work made valuable contributions to fields including everything from gravity, motion, thermometers, engineering, pendulums and even the Scientific Method itself. He even discovered four of Jupiter’s moons.
